Wouter De Soete is Manager of the Centre of Excellence in Pharmaceutical Engineering (CESPE) at Ghent University. He holds a Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. in Bioscience Engineering and was postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Sustainable Organic Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University and visiting researcher at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in Italy (2015). His PhD and postdoctoral work is focusing on sustainability assessment (forecasting, streamlining, integration in business management) in the fine chemical, pharmaceutical and raw materials sector taking into account resource efficiency of both manufacturing platforms and their supply chain. He holds a Black Belt in lean manufacturing, building bridges between Operational Excellence strategies and LCA in manufacturing environments. Experienced in private, academic and policy environments, he is scientific advisor to the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition of the Sustainable Development Unit of the UK’s National Health Service.
